Afmetingen circa 16 x 8 cm. Prijs op aanvraag.

Etching/drypoint by Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn 1650

Title: Landscape with “born- or banpaal” c.q. the obelisk near the village of Halfweg in the direction of Haarlem. The obelisk marked the border of the city of Amsterdam. Persones who were banned from the city, were brought to this place. The etching dates from about 1650, but this rare print is probably from the 19th century. About 1650 Rembrandt (1606-1669) made long walks in the surroundings of Amsterdam. The reason for this is unknow. The man holding a scythe in the background could suggest a sort of mid life crisis. Dimensions circa 16 x 8 cm. Price on request.
