THEETAFEL VAN KROPHOLLER UIT 1921.
Hoewel architect Alexander Jacobus Kropholler (1881-1973) een autodidact was, heeft hij een indrukwekkend oeuvre nagelaten. Aanvankelijk werkte hij intensief samen met Jan Frederik Staal (1879–1940). Samen ontwierpen ze in 1903 het kantoorgebouw De Utrecht aan de Tweebaksmarkt in Leeuwarden. In 1910 kregen ze echter ruzie en spraken daarna nooit meer met elkaar. Kropholler werd geïnspireerd door de traditionele Nederlandse bouwkunst en had een afkeer van vernieuwing. In de jaren 30 werd hij lid van Zwart Front, de fascistische splinterpartij van de oud-priester Arnold Meijer (1905-1965). In 1941 ontwierp Kropholler het Raadhuis van de gemeente Idaarderadeel in Grouw (nu: Grou) dat werd versierd met beeldhouwwerk van de uit Friesland afkomstige beeldhouwer Tjipke Visser (1876-1955) die politiek dezelfde verkeerde interesses had. Kropholler ontwierp ook vaak het meubilair voor zijn gebouwen. Deze theetafel met uittrekbare bladen dateert waarschijnlijk uit 1921. Het Instituut Collectie Nederland (ICN), dat de kunstcollectie van de Staat der Nederlanden beheert, bezit namelijk twee eiken bijzettafels uit een huisameublement van dat jaar (zie http://www.geheugenvannederland.nl/?/nl/items/ICN01:3270/&p=1&i=5&t=62&st=kropholler&sc=%28kropholler%29/&wst=kropholler) die qua detaillering identiek zijn als deze theetafel. Although the Dutch architect Alexander Jacobus Kropholler (1881-1973) was self-taught, he left an impressive oeuvre. Initially he worked closely with Jan Frederik Staal (1879-1940). Together they designed in 1903 the office ‘De Utrecht’ at the Tweebaksmarkt in Leeuwarden. In 1910, however, they got a fight and then never talked with each other. Kropholler was inspired by the traditional Dutch architecture and had an aversion to innovation. In the 1930’s he became a member of Zwart Front, the small fascist party from the old-priest Arnold Meijer (1905-1965). In 1941 Kropholler designed the town hall of the municipality of Idaarderadeel in Grouw (now called: Grou). It was decorated with sculpture of the Frisian Tjipke Visser (1876-1955) who had the same wrong political interests. Kropholler often also designed the furniture in his buildings. This tea table with pull-out tops dates probably from 1921. The ‘Instituut Collectie Nederland’ (ICN), which manages the art collection of the Dutch state, possesses two oak side tables furniture from a house of that year (zie http://www.geheugenvannederland.nl/?/nl/items/ICN01:3270/&p=1&i=5&t=62&st=kropholler&sc=%28kropholler%29/&wst=kropholler) which is in terms of detailing identical to this tea table.
